THE ARTIST
Traveller and dreamer. His strength combines dream and reality, tradition and modernity.
Born in Brussels, of Sardinian parents, living in Sardinia, he travels and meets different artists and cultures, which influence his vision, but he always remains tied and deeply rooted in his land, an island of sea and mountains, of rocks and woods, of traditions deep and contemporary, told in his works.
His life follows a common thread which, taking him from his artistic high school studies and specialization in interior architecture, led him to a career as an artist, with the desire to express a fantastic, fairy tale reality “told with the voice of a child, but in the body of an adult “.
The oniric vision of reality accompanies a large part of his creative path and immerses the public in a parallel, metaphysical reality, where the dream is closely intertwined with the life and experience of the Artist, but also of all of us.
Apparently in contrast with his desire to see the world and to know as much as possible, he has chosen the island as an ideal dimension of life, only at first sight closed within limiting boundaries (partly overcome today through the use of new technologies), but who has opened his mind to artistic results stimulated by the silent and peaceful spaces of Sardinia, to the rediscovery of emotions that seem to disappear, lost in our depths, in the adult phase of life, but which we find again by looking into the soul, choosing to give value to the time and space that surround us and to measure life in moments to be felt and tasted.
Fabrizio Antonio Ibba has combined the interiority of his thought and his art with a universal dimension with grace and kindness, always looking for contacts and encounters that make humanity emerge, with curiosity and critical sense, through the filter of his emotions supported and sustained by the acquired technique.
THE WORK
Regular studies and field experiences lead him to master and learn about a multiplicity of artistic techniques, eventually addressing classical materials and techniques that are at the same time effective in their simplicity.
Paper is the favourite material, but he also experiments with wood, water, earth to create material works linked to Sardinia and the suggestions that this land expresses.
Probably he is not mistaken in believing that the true essence of his work lies in the dimension of memory when, while still a child, playing with a typewriter, he materialized the words written on sheets of paper, creating fairy tale and fantastic universes.
Within those metaphysical worlds, with their protagonists, kings and queens, knights on splendid steeds, but also with their implicit suggestions of moral values and great emotions, pure loves, friendship and loyalty, sacrifices and honour, Fabrizio accompanies the discovery of our emotions and the rediscovery of the child who waits within us.
Famous examples in the history of art of artists who went in search of the child, the primitivism of the sign and the purity of feelings and who recover the childhood memory are not lacking, and in some way they can be linked to the path that Fabrizio also took. An artistic figure similar in form, but original in substance.
